Melissinos Art, known as “The Poet Sandal Maker,” specializes in handmade leather sandals crafted from whole grain vegetable-tanned cow leather sourced from Crete, Greece. Each pair of sandals is fitted to the individual’s feet.

Range of Styles

We offer a range of styles detailed in our current catalog, including standard designs and occasional special orders tailored to individual preferences. Sandals in various colors are not immediately available but can be chosen on-site after viewing the currently available leathers.

How much do they cost ?

No Online Sales and Orders

Melissinos Art does not sell sandals online due to logistical challenges. We sell only on-site at the store because we need to see and measure your feet and adjust everything accordingly. We facilitate orders only by proxy through friends or relatives visiting Athens, as mentioned on the website.

Purchasing Information

To purchase sandals, customers must visit our workshop in Athens at 16 Tzireon St., as our custom sandals are not available online.

Payment Methods

We accept various payment methods including cash, Visa, MasterCard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. We do not accept American Express.

Custom Fitting Time Requirements & Process

Fitting sandals to your measurements can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the model. Therefore, please arrive at least two hours before closing time, unless you want some of our models that do not need to be custom fit.

We also understand some visitors’ enthusiasm in checking out the right model for their needs. However, for those who wish to try on multiple models or all of our models, we kindly ask them to consider the time and effort required of us to handcraft sandals for other customers as well. Most customers are here specifically for custom-made sandals, not just for the ‘sandal fitting experience,’ and their time also deserves respect.

For these reasons, instead of a first-come, first-served approach, we prioritize orders based on when they are placed, ensuring fairness for all customers irrespective of their arrival time and depending on their prompt decision-making and order placing.

If it appears that our sandals may not be suitable for you, we will promptly inform you. If you encounter difficulty in making a decision or if none of our models seem suitable for your feet, we recommend taking a break at a nearby café to reflect on your options. Our objective is to respect everyone’s time—yours, ours, and that of our other valued customers. We strive to ensure a seamless and enjoyable fitting process for those who genuinely appreciate our handmade, custom-fitted sandals.

No appointment is needed. However, due to our limited seating and the intimate size of our workshop, we kindly request that those accompanying potential sandal buyers consider enjoying other activities nearby while their companions are being fitted for their sandals. This will ensure our uninterrupted attention to the task of meticulously fitting the sandals to the personal anatomical nuances of each customer.

Measurements Needed When Buying for an Absent Person

Foot measurements

When you are buying in person for an absent relative or friend, you must provide their foot measurements by tracing and measuring their feet as per the outlined steps:

  1. Tracing of the Foot: Place their bare foot on a sheet of paper on the floor, exerting full weight, and have someone trace around it.
  2. Measure the Length: Use a measuring tape to measure from the edge of the heel to the edge of the longest toe.
  3. Measure the Width: Measure the widest part of the foot at the bunion joint.

This ensures each sandal is custom-made to fit comfortably.
